Pretty things we've seen...
It's easy to miss so many great sights when you are walking in a big city. Especially when walking on cobblestone or uneven pavement, or when looking at your phone for gps directions. But there are so many wonderful things to see...everywhere!
We were in line to get into Sainte Chapelle, Gary's favorite sight in Paris. Right across from where we were standing in line was the French flag, waving over the words: Liberte - Egalite - Fraternite...such a French vignette!
| At Sacre Coeur there were beautiful angels to see. |
We spent a morning wandering through the various lovely covered passages...I loved the mosaic floor in the Passage de Vivienne!
We looked at the menu for this restaurant, but Gary was not in the mood for duck...all they serve are duck dishes and champagne...canard & champagne! (I love the duck lounging in the champagne coupe!)
Since they have cut all the love locks off the Pont des Arts (they were too heavy and were compromising the safety of the bridge), love locks are appearing all over town on a variety of backdrops!
Loved this great metal sculpture above the door of an umbrella and walking stick store! There is no doubt about what they are selling there!
While not necessarily "pretty", these little mosaic space invaders are fun to spot on buildings around town! They are the handy-work of an artist known only as "Invader"...and you never know where you might see one - there are over 1000 throughout Paris!
And I'm not sure what could be prettier than a display of macarons in a shop window!!
Flowers at the flower shop below the first apartment we rented in 2001 with the boys...good old 69 rue du Bac!!
Gary's favorite...Sainte Chapelle almost makes you cry it is so beautiful...almost solid stained glass, each window panel representing a book of the Bible...
But the beauty goes beyond the stained glass...
Paris has some beautiful Metro stops...this one was just glowing with the morning light coming through all the colored glass balls!!
We walked through the grounds of the Louvre on our way to Sainte Chapelle...and found this pretty angle of the pyramid!
And perhaps the prettiest sight of all in Paris is the Eiffel Tower lit up at night! We had a great dinner at the restaurant Perruche on the rooftop of the Printemps department store. The vibe was cool and hip (perhaps why they seated us inside instead of on the patio!) But the views were amazing!
Gary getting out his French "gluten free" card to give the chef! (we had one for each country we visited!)
The outside patio area of Perruche was beautiful and had a live DJ. The waiter brought around a song list to each table and you could pick 2 songs you wanted to hear...we picked Prince and Amy Winehouse.
This shot was from our last night here, when we walked after dinner to say "au revoir" and "a bientôt"! This has really been a GREAT trip...and this seems like the perfect final memory of our amazing 3 weeks in Europe
