Home away from Home in Copenhagen!

One of the things I agonize about when we travel is finding a hotel...I DO rely on TripAdvisor  and the Rick Steves Travel Forum...and read lots of reviews!  But still, how to find the perfect location, I want a hotel with the right amenities, at a price that won't break the bank...not an easy task, but still it is something I enjoy researching.

I feel like I hit the jackpot with our hotel in Copenhagen though!  The Anderson Boutique Hotel has been wonderful and I would highly recommend it if you have any plans to come to this delightful Danish city!  What's not to love about a hotel that has wine hour every evening from 5-6?!  6 different wines are highlighted each evening and the hotel staff seems quite educated about the various international wine offerings...I'm on kind of a rosé jag right now, Gary is being more adventurous and sampling different ones! (Plus, the bar is crazy and keeps changing colors!!)

The lobby is cute and a bit funky...there is a big bowl of yarn and knitting needles so you can knit a few rows - I guess they are collecting scarves for homeless people (which we have yet to see really in this city).  There are also some giant teddy bears sitting in chairs, which the children staying in the hotel seem to love!  If you are in the mood for a game of chess, the lobby also has a few tables with chess sets out for play by guests.  The Nespresso machine in the lobby gets a lot of use...today was super windy and rainy and lots of guests (including ourselves!) took refuge in the afternoon in the lobby drinking tea and coffee.
The sleek fireplace adds to the wonderful Danish hygge (the Danish word for a mood of coziness brought on by creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people).  All this hygge must be why the Danes are high on that list of happiest people in the world!

Our room is on the 5th floor so we usually (ok...always) take the elevator.  But....if we were so inclined to take the stairs, the hotel has placed little treats on the landings at each floor to encourage you to take the stairs!
cookies on the 2nd floor!

candy on the 3rd floor!

and water on the 4th floor...gotta keep hydrated!

The sizes of at the rooms are called: cool, brilliant, wonderful and awesome...we are in a brilliant double and it is just perfect for us!  It is bright and cherry and very comfy!

The beds are made up in the Scandinavian style we loved in Norway...each side gets its own down duvet...its a system that I really like - it works for us, I'm always hot at night and Gary is always cold!  Maybe we need this at home!   The bathroom is not huge, but it is well appointed - the only downside is the one large step up to get into it!  My travel tip...European bathrooms are frequently small and often lack counter space so we always travel with hanging toiletry bags....there is always a towel bar you which you can hang your bag!   If you are going to travel, invest in a hanging bag...I love my EMME bag - It lies flat in my suitcase and has various pouches that can zip off, depending how much stuff you travel with.

The breakfast buffet has been wonderful...lots of choices!  Various breads and pastries, even gluten free muffins for Gary,  lots of meats and cheeses (and some smoked salmon for you Iren!), fresh fruit, oatmeal with lots of toppings, an egg station which Gary has tried to master with less than ideal results...one day the egg was way under done (at 8 minutes), the next day it was hard boiled (at 10 minutes)...the elusive perfect soft boiled egg is teasing him!

And the location of the hotel is really great...we took the train directly from the  airport to the Central Station and it was just a 2 block walk to this hotel (which will also come in handy when we leave tomorrow).  Copenhagen is a very walkable city...not huge and very flat!  We are walking distance to all at the main sights: Tivoli Garadens, the royal palace, the hip and trendy meat packing district, the Freetown of Christianshavn.   We have not used busses, metro, or cabs while here...we have done all our exploring on foot...Gary clocked between 5-6 miles each day on his pedometer!  We have really enjoyed the restaurants in the area...all just about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.  If you are ever in Copenhagen, I would definitely recommend staying at the Anderson Boutique Hotel!  We have had a blast here, but are looking forward to our next destination - Munich!!  Can't wait to see what adventures we find there...
